Summary

The week beginning Monday 18 May 2026 brings a classic mid‑May transition across the United Kingdom: a slow, unsettled start dominated by Atlantic moisture and cooler‑than‑average temperatures, followed by a marked shift toward warmer, drier, and increasingly sunny conditions as high pressure builds from the south. This pattern will be felt across all four nations, though the timing and intensity of improvements will vary regionally.

Overview of the Week
The first half of the week (Mon–Wed) is shaped by persistent low‑pressure influence, bringing rain, showers, brisk winds, and temperatures hovering in the mid‑teens Celsius. By Thursday, the pattern begins to break down, and from Friday onward the UK enters a notable warm spell, with temperatures widely reaching the low to mid‑20s°C, and in southern England potentially 26°C by Friday and Saturday.
This warming trend is strongly supported by the forecast for 22–24 May, which shows highs of 25–26°C and predominantly sunny or partly sunny conditions .
